Description
In honor of the175th anniversary of Texas' Independence, this painting pays homage to Stephen F. Austin (the "Father of Texas"), William B. Travis (who was the commander at the Alamo), the 1824 flag (rallying flag for those asking Mexico to honor the terms of the 1824 Constitution), words from a speech by Augustin Viesca (1836 Governor of Coahuila y Tejas), the cannon at Gonzales (the first military battle of the Revolution), the defeat at the Alamo, the Lone Star flag, and the oil strike in 1901 at Spindletop, Texas (which led Texas into the modern era of exploration and technology).
